Trips and winter sports on Valea Prahovei

Along Valea Prahovei, between Ploiesti and Predeal, you'll find the busiest route in the country. Many balneary and climatic resorts have sprung overnite in this area and it's from here you can go on marked tourist routes to the chalets situated in Bucegi, Baiului and The Barsei Mountains.

Valea Prahovei is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, having spectacular mountain landscapes. The narrow valleys, the cascades, the steep tops and the sculptured rocks fill the landscape and make for perfect conditions for hill-walking and mountaineering. Tourists can also enjoy winter sports on the slopes which have many different degrees of difficulty. Also, you must try to visit neighboring regions such as: Brasov and Poiana Brasov, Moeciu-Bran, Paraul Rece etc.

SINAIA - PEARL OF THE BUCEGI

Situated at 790-950 m altitude, the resort has excellent facilities for winter sports. From Sinaia, the most popular routes lead to The Bucegi Mountains and to the many chalets: Varful cu Dor, Pestera, Piatra Arsa, Babele, Varful Omul. For those who wish to admire the view and the City Bucegi below, one can climb down the pathway that leads them to the Piscul Cainelui chalet (1559 m) from the Masive Garbova or by funicular to Cota 2000.

As we were saying, Sinaia is the home of winter sports. There are several ski tracks with different degrees of difficulty, a bob track (1500 m long), and sledge tracks. Access to the higher part of these tracks is by modern cable transport (Telesky).

In the resort, there are two special tourist attractions: Sinaia Monastery, built after the model of the Monastery “Saint Elena” on the Sinai Mountain in Egypt; and the castle Peles (together with Pelisorul), ex-summer residence until 1947 of the royal family. Today, it is a museum, and is one of the best kept royal palaces on the continent. Specialised Guides (Romanian & English) are on hand to accompany you on your visit.

Accommodation in Sinaia resort is diverse: from modern hotels (Palace, Sinaia, Montana, Alpin, Paltinis etc) to villas with high levels of comfort, guest houses, inns and touring stops or chalets. You just have to remember that in the winter season, to be sure, you should make your reservations early. There are also many restaurants (many of them, Romanian specific), together with pizza outlets, fast-food restaurants etc.
